here we come

at the end of the deer hunter

nick dies twice

once in captivity when the viet cong force him to hold the revolver to his head

and once in saigon

because try as he might, he can't beat what's already killed him






few things fuck with me like the end of that movie does

i'm worthless and stagnant not because i'm scared of what in life will happen to me

but because i'm scared of what it will do to my head

i'm not afraid of _______

but i'm afraid

beyond comprehension or reason

of losing my mind
